The St. Paul Hockey Officials Association
(SPHOA) has been around for more than 50 years as a non-profit organization
serving high school and college athletic conferences throughout the Twin Cities
Metropolitan Area since 1962
Our officials serve men’s and women’s hockey
leagues as independent contractors in a wide range of game assignments for the
Minnesota State High School League, WCHA, NCHA, NCAA, NCHC, WIAC and MIAC.
Of SPHOA’s 140-plus members, close to half of
our members officiate NCAA men’s or women’s hockey in addition to regular high
school schedules. Several members have been selected to work the NCAA
Regionals, Final Five, and the Frozen Four. Other members continue working at
higher levels of USA youth hockey. Annually, we maintain a significant
percentage of officials selected for the MSHSL State Tournament.
SPHOA members further serve the athletic
community in distinguished roles on the National Federation Ice Hockey Rules
Committee, as the Head Rule Clinician (MSHSL), and the Supervisor of Officials
(MSHSL, Division I WCHA, Division III NCHA, and MIAC Conferences).
SPHOA maintains a long history of meeting the
needs of high school and college hockey in Minnesota. With active recruitment
and rigorous training processes, SPHOA is respected for setting the standard
for Minnesota officials.
